Whenever I get home from a trip, I find myself mentally sorting through what the travel gear I packed—what worked, what I actually used, and what I probably didn’t need. On our most recent trip, I realized how much I’ve come to rely on a few favorite travel items that consistently make the cut.

I’ll be honest: I’ve definitely fallen for travel gadgets that promised to change everything. Some worked, some didn’t, and a few were just funny learning experiences. But over time, I’ve landed on my tried-and-true favorites—the things that help me stay organized, feel prepared, and travel with a little more ease.

Getting ready for another trip with packing cubes

I naturally lean toward items that simplify things and keep clutter to a minimum. That’s how I operate in everyday life, so it makes sense that my packing habits follow suit.

Having the right travel gear puts me at ease and makes it less likely I’ll forget something important.

I’m also pretty minimalist when it comes to beauty products (team mascara, lip balm, and moisturizer), so if you’re looking for a 12-step makeup packing guide, this probably isn’t your list.

Instead, here are 20 (plus a few bonus picks) of my favorite travel gear essentials—the things I reach for on every trip, whether I’m heading across the country or just out of town for the weekend.

Organization Favorites: Pack Smarter, Not Harder

  • Toiletry Organizers: Rather than using one large case, I like smaller ones so I can group like items together. They wipe down easily, open wide, and you can see through both the top and bottom—super handy when you’re digging for something. Plus, the small and medium sizes tuck easily into the gaps of your suitcase or carry-on.
  • Cord Ties: Tangled cords make me irrationally annoyed, so I love these to keep everything neat. Bonus: I use them at home, too—not just when traveling.
  • Cord & Electronics Organizer: I love having one place for all my cords, charger packs, and my favorite multi-device charger. While it takes up space in my bag, it’s easily worth it to not feel like I’m playing hide and seek trying to find something.
  • Medicine Organizer: I always pack a small kit with essentials like Advil, motion sickness tablets, and allergy meds. Most of the time I don’t need it—but when I do, I’m so glad it’s there. I use these labels to make sure I know what is in each compartment, cutting down to size for the smaller ones.
  • Packing Cubes: Not only do they keep my clothes organized, but packing cubes also keep me honest about not overpacking. I use compression cubes in different sizes to maximize suitcase space. Plus, mine came with a laundry bag, which makes it easy to keep clean and dirty clothes separate.

Tech Must-Haves: Small Items, Big Helpers

  • Multi-Device Charger: I’m all about efficiency when traveling. This three-in-one charger powers my AirPods, Apple Watch, and iPhone—all off one USB. It’s perfect for overnight charges and cuts down on extra cables.
  • Mini Power Bank: Whether it’s the airplane USB port not working or draining my battery from taking pictures, this little thing makes it so I never have to worry about my battery reading 0%, plus it’s mag safe, so no cord required.
  • AirTags: These little guys give me peace of mind like nothing else. I pop one in each piece of luggage—and usually keep another in my purse or wallet—so I can track them easily if (when) something goes missing.
  • Kindle: Let’s be honest, my Kindle is a major MVP in my life, when I’m traveling and at home. It saves so much space compared to hauling around books, and I love being able to “pack” multiple reads without any extra weight.

Sleep Setup: Because Rest > Everything

  • Noise Machine: Years ago, I started traveling with a noise machine—and now I literally can’t sleep without it. I have one dedicated just for travel that lives in my suitcase and blocks out everything from hallway noise to rowdy neighbors. It’s compact, has lots of sound options, and this travel case keeps it from getting banged up in my bag.
  • Eye Mask: I am that person who needs it pitch black to fall asleep. Tiny lights, hotel curtains that don’t close properly—you name it, it bugs me. I didn’t realize how much I needed a good eye mask until I had one. It took a little getting used to at first, but now it’s a staple of my favorite travel gear.

Shoes & Socks: Prioritizing Happy Feet

  • Reef Neptune Shoes: These are hands-down my favorite travel shoes. I have them in the Vintage color and they go with everything. I can dress them up or down, they’re washable (a dream after a busy trip), and best of all—they don’t need breaking in. The soft back means no blisters, even after miles of walking.
  • No-Show Socks: After some trial and error (and pricey sock regrets), I found a brand that actually stays put and lasts. Breathable, affordable, and my feet are way happier now.

Sound Solutions: Ear Essentials

  • EarPlanes: These seriously changed the game for me on long-haul flights. Waiting for my ears to pop used to be painful and miserable. Using these means no more plugged ears—and much less dread.
  • Ear Plugs: Sometimes you’re in noisy places, and sometimes you just want to drown that noise out. These tiny earplugs and their carrying case are easy to pack and perfect for when the time arises.

travel Accessories: Gear that Moves With YOu

  • Small Crossbody (The All About Crossbody Belt Bag): This bag feels like a magic carpet bag. It’s tiny but mighty. I can fit a small power bank, thin wallet, travel brush, mini sunscreen, chapstick, and my phone—all without it feeling bulky. Plus, I can wear it across my body or around my waist depending on the day’s adventure.
  • Large Crossbody (The All About Large Crossbody Belt Bag): When I need a little more space, this slightly larger version is perfect. It fits everything comfortably without making me feel like I’m lugging around a full backpack.
  • Phone Crossbody Strap: This might be one of my favorite travel gear discoveries of all. It’s a simple strap that slips into my phone case, making it nearly impossible to drop my phone while snapping photos (the fear is real, IYKYK). It’s stylish, adjustable, and clips in and out easily.

Things I Tried—and Ditched

  • Collapsible Water Bottles: They aren’t worth the leaky hassle. Although not a popular opinion, I prefer to buy a bottle of water at the airport—or use the one they often provide in your hotel room—reuse it for the trip, and then recycle it on the way home.
  • Airplane Travel Pillows: I’ve tried so many. None have actually worked or felt worth lugging around. The pillow the airline provides on long-haul flights will do just fine.
  • Travel Space Saver Compression Bags: While the idea is nice, the wrinkly clothes and inconvenience of opening and repacking aren’t worth it. Instead, I’ve learned to pack less or book accommodations that allow us to do laundry while traveling.

Packing it Up

There you have it—my favorite travel gear that’s come with me across the globe (and close to home).

Some items might seem simple, but together, they truly make every trip smoother, easier, and way more enjoyable. Everyone’s travel style is different, but I hope you find a few favorites from my list that make your next adventure even better.

Got any favorite travel gear I should check out? I’m always game for trying something new—just don’t blame me if it becomes a permanent part of your packing list too!

With joy,

Bri
